FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions
We are located in Felton, a small town in the Santa Cruz, CA mountains.
We are located in central California, and prefer working in the Santa Cruz area, South San Francisco Bay Area, and Monterey Bay area. We also have ties to Napa and occasionally work there. If you are not in one of these areas, you can certainly talk to us about doing work for you. Or we can help find a reputable decorative artist in your area.
We start with a phone call. We'll talk about ideas you might have and try to define the styles and color schemes you like. If you aren't sure what you want, I'll give you some "home-work." We'll meet in the space you want finished and view sample finishes I think meet your criteria. We'll determine one or two finishes you'd like to see, which will then be designed specifically for you.
We love painting stencil murals. If you are interested in an original-art mural, we can help refer you to decorative artists in that field.
The length of a project depends entirely on your individual project. Some projects take a few days, some take weeks. After we meet, determine the areas to receive the finish, and which finish you want, we can give you a much better feel for how long your project will take.
Yes. We love working with Interior Designers. One of the reasons Katie trained in Interior Design was to enable her to understand the design process and enhance her working relationships with Interior Designers.
Yes. California State License #950470
Part of the project process is creating sample boards so you can determine which finish you want and so you can see the finish in the selected area. Sample boards remain the property of A Fine Finish, and as a company policy, we do not leave them with clients or Interior Designers. If you need an example of the finish to coordinate other design elements, we can provide smaller sample swatches.
If it doesn't move, we can decorate it. Primarily we work on walls, ceilings, floors, cabinets, and furniture. If there's something else you're interested in enhancing, let us know.
Yes. However, exterior work is subject to weather. Wet or damp weather and cold conditions negatively interact with products and will ruin a finish, so we limit out-door activities to clement conditions.
Yes, we do work with other contractors, such as standard painting contractors who might do the prep work and base-coating. We can provide direction and instructions for other contractors when their work is integral to the finish, but we do not contract with them directly. You will need to contract directly with anyone else needed to complete the project.
